About Us

St. Augustine's has been part of the Navarre community since 1984, when our first parishioners met at the Holiday Inn on Navarre Beach. We moved to our present location in 1985.
We are growing with our community. St. Augustine's offers opportunities for spiritual growth through worship, fellowship, education, stewardship and service to others. St. Augustine’s is in the middle of Navarre, Florida, on Navarre Parkway, on serene property (4.2 acres) allowing for future expansion.
St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church began with 10-15 faithful worshipers meeting at the Holiday Inn on Navarre Beach in 1984. In 1985 the Diocese arranged with Church of the Redeemer, Mobile, Alabama to acquire their excess doublewide building to be set up on the land. The land was anonymously donated for the prospective church. In 1986 the church attendance had grown to 29 people and by 1987, at the annual diocesan convention, St. Augustine’s was accepted as a Mission Station.
Throughout the years St. Augustine’s had various supply ministers until 1989. The Rev. Dr. Herbert Vandort faithfully served as Vicar for four years from 1989 to 1992. Again supply ministers were to continue the worship services while the congregation grew to 50 people. The congregation of St. Augustine’s worked diligently and prayerfully which resulted in the building of the current worship space and Henderson Hall. Several original founders still grace us with their spiritual guidance, history, and tradition of our church.
In 1997 the blessings flowed into St. Augustine’s with the arrival of Fr. Neil Kaminski. The church grew to its 120 worshipers today. We are a flourishing congregation wanting to give our children the foundation of a Christian life and bring into the community our apostolic movement.
St. Augustine’s of Canterbury offers so may ways to be involved in the life of our church. There are guilds for service, charitable groups, worship groups, dinner clubs, monthly pot-lucks, social gatherings, and children’s bible school and fun times, and so much more in fellowship. The community of Navarre uses the premises for a multitude of meetings such as Boy and Girl Scouts, writers club, garden clubs, weddings, and receptions. St. Augustine’s is the only church in Navarre to offer an “All Souls Garden” and Columbarium as a final resting place for cremations.
Our goal is to thrive as a Christian worship family within the church and to carry into the community the love we have for our Lord and our brothers and sisters in His creation. The spirit to serve in this church is powerful and unending. The love in this church is embracing and comforting. The commitment to Christ is unconditional.
In February 2008, The Rev. Elizabeth J. Powell accepted our call, and at the Diocesan convention that month, our church became an official parish.  In December 2009, The Rev. Powell moved to Alabama.

On Ash Wednesday 2010, The Rev. Anthony MacWhinnie II became our new priest in charge.

With prayers and adulation we prepare the way for His coming with our mantra, “They will know we are Christians by our love.”
