HAITI EATHQUAKE -

A new tax relief law allows people who contributed in 2010 to charities providing earthquake relief in Haiti to take a tax deduction for the contribution on their 2009 tax return instead of their 2010 return. This means you can receive an immediate tax benefit, rather than having to wait until you file next year’s return. Please check with the IRS as certain restrictions apply.  Please use the following link or ask our ERD representative, Richard Smith, if you have any questions. Thank you!

 From the Bishop:

As I’m sure you are aware, there is a major humanitarian need for victims of the 7.0 earthquake that occurred in Haiti January 12.  Please remember that Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) is our resource for sending needed aid to those victims.

I ask that you consider either an appeal for a special offering or a direct contribution to ERD, to send the much needed aid to that devastated area.  You may send funds directly to ERD at:

815 Second Avenue, New York, NY  10017 or by on-line credit card www.er-d.org or to the Diocesan Office (earmarked Haiti Fund) and we will forward those funds on your behalf.

Please keep the people of Haiti, The Rt. Rev. Jean Zaché Duracin, Bishop of Haiti, the Diocese of Haiti and emergency workers in your prayers.

Pax,
Bishop Duncan

The Wall Street Journal has put online a short three minute video interview and narrative of how the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti is responding: http://online.wsj.com/video/haitian-church-steps-in-during-wait-for-aid/147A5CEA-4AC2-4BA0-83E0-B24724B2D65A.html.

Please share this video.  It is a wonderful testament to how important faith remains despite the crisis of human suffering.
